A look back at January's design headlines

This is the first installment of a monthly segment of design headlines I’ll be kicking off in 2022 to keep you aware of resources and news in the design world. 

• Joann Wu and Kristy Tillman take executive leadership roles at Uber, Netflix - Joann joins Uber as VP of Design after being at LinkedIn for over 10 years where she scaled it's consumer product experience. Tillman joins Netflix as a director of Product Design; she was most recently the Head of Global Experience Design at Slack. Kristy and Joann join a small number of black and asian women executives leading design in big tech. 

• Figma Config conference call for Speakers - Figma launches call for speakers for its 2022 conference—applications close February 20th. Read more

• Framer launches new tools to develop websites - The no-code movement is catching on full steam as Framer throws its hat in the ring. The popular prototyping touts it can replace your Figma to Webflow workflow into an all-in-one experience. Read more

• The State of Black Design conference tickets go live - The State of Black Design Family Reunion is A three-day hybrid conference hosted by Texas State University. This event aims to provide networking, development, and career opportunities for young designers, focusing on student designers of color. Read more

• Ethical Design Guide - Tech is always political. The way data is collected and handled is often biased, and many products are neither accessible nor inclusive. Ethical Design Guide is made to share resources on how to create ethical products that don't cause harm. Read more

• Instagram & TikTok are testing subscription-based services for creators. With Instagram Subscriptions, creators can develop deeper connections with their most engaged followers and grow their recurring monthly income by giving subscribers access to exclusive content and benefits, all within the same platform where they interact with them already.

• The Rise of The Creator Employee - LinkedIn interviews employees with active voices on social media and how they are increasingly becoming the new trend to support talent brand initiatives and side hustles. Will it be embraced? Read more

• My conversation with Maurice Cherry on the Revision Path Podcast - If you’ve been a longtime listener of Revision Path, then you probably already recognize this week’s guest, Harrison Wheeler. Along with being a senior design manager at LinkedIn, he’s also a podcaster with his own show called Technically Speaking. (And I’ve been a guest twice!)
